Studio Waltz

No sales at the 19th Annual Studio Waltz but that is not new for most of us.......we keep on painting anyway because we love it! It was so windy this year none of us could even paint on location....I did a pencil sketch and wiped out the one painting I attempted. Wipe Outs happen a lot these days but that is OK. It is getting out with fellow artists and enjoying the day that really matters. As a friend says, KEEP ON PAINTING!

Miss Vickie's

The Florida West Coast Plein Air Painters worked on location at Anclote River Park in Tarpon Springs this past Friday. It was another beautiful day with a breeze followed by lunch at Miss Vickie's on the water. Great way to end the day with fellow painters :-)

"Anybody Home?"

14 X 11 Oil on Linen on Hardboard

Started this painting two years ago as a demo at Art in the Park in Brooksville, Florida. It was painted from a photo taken in our backyard and I finally pulled it out and finished it. The blue bird box is still in the same place and the birds continue to return. Everytime they come home they check out the box to make sure nobody else moved in and it is as if they are saying "Anybody Home?" Love these beautiful little birds :-)

Port Richey Waterfront Park

The Florida West Coast Plein Air Painters created art at the Port Richey Waterfront Park during the month of June. In the process of completing those paintings. Here is the first one of four paintings:

Plein Air Today at Bayou Drive

The Florida West Coast Plein Air Painters painted on Bayou Drive in Hernando County, FL today and the weather was beautiful! My car became my outdoor studio and that always works well. We give ourselves 2 1/2 hours to set up, paint, and clean up which makes our outings challenging but always fun. If I get a painting laid in and know what to do with it at the next stage, I am happy. Today, I was happy and am anxious for the painting to dry so I can get back into it.

Weeki Wachee Reception

We are Friends of Weeki Wachee State Park and attended the annual reception held Friday evening at the park. Love that place! We were treated to a private reception and mermaid show. Friends of Weeki help raise funds for park improvements and the group raised $32,000 last year. Thanks to Julie Komenda, the first Plein Air event was held at the park and was well attended by both artists and visitors to the park.

Not an Ordinary Day!

Today did not begin as an ordinary day and I now know my cell phone will call 911 even when in an area not covered by my provider. Met fellow artists at Bayou Drive at 9:30 am but could not paint due to weather. We drove to Bayport Park as it has shelters. On the way, we passed a horrible brush fire and I could not believe I saw flames that big given the heavy rain. Two homes were across from the fire. Fireman arrived quickly and the flames were gone by 11.45 am.....white foam was everywhere but it sure was a relief to see the fire gone. THANK YOU EMERGENCY RESPONDERS!

First Blog Entry

Not sure how all this blogging works but here goes....this is the first entry with more to follow.....seems appropriate to begin with my favorite quote: "Make Each Day Your Masterpiece." The above photo was taken at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Weeki Wachee, Florida.
